That’s right! A few days ago, Hulu announced that their comedy series Woke (starring Lamorne Morris) has been renewed, we’re getting a season 2 and I couldn’t be happier!
With the way Netflix is canceling good shows left and right, and renewing their basic ass white mainstream shows (that I really don’t give AF about) I’m super excited Hulu has decided to renew one of their few Originals I actually love, and is giving us another season.
If you’re still unfamiliar with the series (which I pray you’re not) Woke, is a live-action / animated hybrid Original comedy series, inspired by the life of award-winning artist Keith Knight. The first season debuted on Hulu, on my birthday, September 9th and is currently Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
Woke takes an absurdist look at identity and culture through the lens of Keef, who’s a Black cartoonist finally on the verge of mainstream success! But when an unexpected incident occurs, it changes everything.
With a newfound consciousness, Keef must navigate the new voices and ideas challenging him, all without setting aflame to everything he’s already built.
The comedy is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television and ABC Signature and the series stars Morris, T. Murph and Blake Anderson, Sasheer Zamata, and Rose McIver.
Woke was developed by Marshall Todd and Keith Knight. The co-creators served as executive producers alongside Jay Dyer, Maurice “Mo” Marable, Aeysha Carr, Richie Schwartz, John Will, Will Gluck, and Eric Christian Olsen. Kate Schumaecker served as executive producer on the pilot.
Woke is yet another example of Hulu’s continued success in elevating powerful and relevant stories about the human experience from breakthrough creators and talent including Ramy, Shrill, Pen15 and upcoming series Love, Beth.
But more importantly, it’s one for the culture and has exceeded my high ass expectations! (It’s Netflix good, so I’m excited Hulu finally has something I actually love watching!)
You're welcome! I'm kind of excited to see what everyone else thinks.…
