How to Watch “Sinners” In Theaters

Okay so, Coogler filmed “Sinners” using Kodak 65mm film, taking full advantage of the large format cameras to bring his chilling story to life. The film is being shown in a wide variety of formats, some more rare and premium than others. So here’s the full breakdown:

Digital Formats

  • Ultra Panavision 70 (2.76:1) – This ultra-wide aspect ratio gives the film an epic visual scale.
  • IMAX Digital 1.90:1 – A taller, more immersive frame than standard widescreen.
  • IMAX Digital 1.43:1 – The full impact format Coogler highly recommends. It shows Sinners the way he truly envisioned.

Premium Experiences

  • 4DX – Watch “Sinners” with motion seats, water, wind, and scents. Projected in Ultra Panavision 2.76:1. Which I plan on checking out in a few days, so I’ll come back and link my review!
  • ICE Immersive – Surround yourself with visuals on five extra side panels.
  • ScreenX – Visuals extend to the side walls for a panoramic experience.
  • Dolby Cinema HDR – Rich contrast, deep blacks, and advanced HDR technology.

Coogler, also mentioned a few different audio options, including:

  • 5.0 surround – Solid, but standard.
  • 12.0 surround – The most immersive sound experience, recommended if available.
