If You Don’t Think Of Michael Jackson When You Watch Donald Glover’s Guava Island On Amazon Prime Video Are You Even A MJ Fan?

No seriously! All jokes aside, Guava island effortlessly compiles Childish Gambino’s best songs into a movie and it’s all too familiar. I mean the movie is great, the acting is great, the message behind it is great … but in the middle of watching Guava Island on Amazon Prime Video I couldn’t help but think:

  1. Why hasn’t an artist done this before?
  2. Oh yeah, someone has! Michael Jackson!

It’s the same damn concept! And of course I love it. The choreography to the songs are also dope, and I love how everything just seemlessly fits together. As if the songs were MADE for this movie.

Hell, I wonder how long ago he planned this movie because it’s a little TOO good! Lol Like did he have this movie in mind already when he created the music, or did they write this around his music? Would be great to know! If y’all see Donald anywhere, can you let me know so I can ask? Lol

Childish Gambino in Guava Island Movie

But seriously, if you’re a Childish Gambino fan, this movie was kind of made for you! The entire time I watched it, I was dancing like, yup, I already know what song is next! Lol (And if I didn’t know, Amazon Prime Video has this cool thing on the side, where they TELL you what song is about to play, or what the names of the actors are! I love it! I really need to use Amazon Prime Video more. Lol)

But I’m sorry, for those of you that don’t know what Guava Island is about.

Guava Island Movie On Amazon Prime Video

What’s Guava Island?

Guava Island is a 2019 American musical film directed by Hiro Murai (his feature directorial debut) with a screenplay by Stephen Glover from a story by Donald Glover, Stephen Glover, Ibra Ake, Jamal Olori and Fam Udeorji. It stars Donald Glover and Rihanna in the lead roles of Deni and Kofi, respectively, and was first exhibited at the Coachella Festival in April.

It was then released on April 13, 2019, by Amazon Studios through Amazon Prime Video for anyone to watch without a subscription for 18 hours before being available to Prime subscribers only. In the final hour of the 18 hours, the film was streamed on the Coachella YouTube page and Twitch. Donald Glover was co-headlining at the event as Childish Gambino.

An animated folk tale narrated by Kofi Novia introduces the origins of Guava Island and the music played by Deni Maroon, a local celebrity who lives with Kofi. Deni, who is known for always being late, rushes out of their house and is greeted by many passersby on the street on his way to work.

Any other cast members I should know about?

Letitia Wright also stars in Guava Island as one of Kofi’s friends at her job and I absolutely love her with Rihanna.

What songs should I expect to hear?

I don’t want to giveaway the entire movie, but a few of Childish’s popular songs are scattered throughout this movie, including This Is America, Summertime Magic and Feels Like Summer. Check out this clip of him singing Summertime Magic.

I absolutely LOVE how they incorporate the songs and also how the songs are introduced before it fully kicks in. I also love how. weird Donald.Glover is as a person. Lol I’ve always loved him because of it.

Anywho, Guava Island is well written and despite so much of his music being thrown into this, it still feels like a movie! Oh and the ENDING? Hmm! Lol Let’s just say the ending was great! I loved how this ended, despite how sad I was towards the end.

Make sure you put Guava Island on your “Must Watch” list! And if you don’t have Amazon Prime Video, may I suggest you borrow someone else’s account? Lol (Or get your own damn it! Lol) Either way, make sure you watch this before the Summer is over!
