Live Recap: 35 Thoughts I Had While Watching “The Big Leap” Episode 1 On Hulu

Thanks to Hulu, ’cause a b*xch don’t even have regular tv channels anymore, I legit live on streaming apps now, I got to watch episode 1 of The Big Leap and I am super excited to share my initial thoughts via this live recap.

The Big Leap is a modern tale about second chances and chasing one’s dreams. It revolves around a group of diverse, down-on-their-luck characters attempting to change their lives by participating in a potentially life-ruining reality dance show that builds to a live production of “Swan Lake.”

Spoiler Alert – If you haven’t seen episode 1 of The Big Leap yet, this recap will spoil things a bit. I omitted names so you don’t know who is who. But if you loathe all kinds of spoilers, bookmark this joint and wait until you’ve seen the episode.

  1. Ohhh it’s about dance! Yayyy!
  2. Not everyone knowing he’s gay already. Hilarious.
  3. Omgggg is she pregnant!??? Omgggg her boobs! That’s why her boobs!! OMG!
  4. Wow! Did her mom just imply that she’s too fat for sugar?
  5. Ahhhh it’s the mom from The Fosters!!! The white mom.
  6. Awwww there’s a mom that’s an influencer, well trying to be, who used to dance?
  7. Lawd this man and his issues! They tryna cycle and he using them as therapy. I just can’t! 
  8. I love that we get to see jobs like a lyft driver and an Instacart shopper.
  9. I didn’t realize this was about the arts and now I’m so excited! 
  10. It’s like the Sing movie, but in series form and about dance! For adults.
  11. I love this already!
  12. Damn he didn’t get to go to college because he’s gay? Dad refused to help with it. UGH! That makes me so sad! 
  13. And she was pregnant and depressed! Sounds oh too familiar.
  14. Omg I love this show so much! I miss watching people dance.
  15. Yes to them showing a plus size woman dancing! Thank you! I also saw another plus size dancer on the flyer! This makes me so happy. This is the diversity we need on TV.

  20. Oh shit! Sis almost bust her damn face. But you just know she’ll be back.
  21. So her mom thinks she’s fat but keeps giving her kid sweets??? Make it make sense sis.
  22. This touches on depression and I totally appreciate that.
  23. He seriously asked to tap her foot! Cause you know men need consent for everything now. I’m not complaining though, I’m happy they’re showing what asking for consent looks like.

  25. Not him saying he gotta see his kid and then telling someone else to fix it. Yeah, that’s how you parent sir. Sure.

  31. In the trailer I thought he was being an ass when he said she’s pretty, but he really meant it. And now my heart … it hurts. Help!
