I’m So Disappointed In This Movie Right Now It Just Don’t Make No Sense

Okay, so I’m gonna be real for a second. (As if I’m ever not. But whatever.) I’m really, really annoyed right now!

I just opened up my Prime Video app, scrolled through, and found out that Lionsgate dropped a Black movie called 2 Minutes of Fame and I had no idea what that shit was!

So I watched the trailer because I figured if Kat Williams was in this shit then CLEARLY this shit is old AF and I just never heard about it.

The trailer is funny and the movie seems great.

The 2 Minutes Of Fame movie is a comedy about the comedy world and features a comedian you guys all know – Jay Pharaoh.

It even stars Keke Palmer and Andy Allo (who was great in Upload) and a few other great Black actors. Yet this is the first time I’m ever hearing about this damn movie!

It took for me to log onto Prime Video to find out this shit exists!

And guess when TF it came out?

Last f*cking month! I nearly had a heartache when I saw the year 2020!

Apparently it went straight to DVD? Ugh!

But I find it super weird that Lionsgate dropped this movie and I had no damn idea! I get emails for DVDs ALL the muhf*cking time so how come this one wasn’t included?

And I’m not saying I should know every movie that comes out but damn! Lionsgate? Black film? Comedy? And I ain’t know SHIT?

(P.s – You can rent the 2 Minutes Of Fame movie on Amazon Prime Video right now for $5.99. I’ll have a review up as soon as I can! Hopefully tomorrow or by this weekend.)

But like I was saying …

So now I’m wondering …

Maybe I’m just a little nobody and I didn’t get the news?! Actually I’m hoping that’s what it was! But I haven’t seen this on my timeline ANYWHERE! And with big names like that I know damn well folks would at least be talking about it on social media. But nada?! Absolutely NOTHING!? That’s f*cking crazy!

And you can’t tell me that because it’s on Amazon it wasn’t promoted!

Amazon promotes movies all the time! That’s how I found out about Homecoming! Those ads were everywhere!

So that makes me wonder … either I’m super small and I just didn’t get the news. OR this shit was never promoted!

And I’m highly upset because in the year of 2020 white folks have been SCREAMING “I see you, I feel you and I hear you and I want you to know I stand with you.” They’ve also been screaming “amplify Black voices”.

So how the hell did a LIONSGATE movie go unnoticed by an Entertainment Writer who writes about Black films? How the hell did she not hear a peep about a movie that just dropped a month ago? It’s been a god damn month and I ain’t heard SHIT!

Then when Black films flop everyone is quick to blame the writers or directors for not writing a more compelling, more interesting movie. When in fact – and I say this as a marketing major – it’s the f*cking marketing that makes us “flop”! Look at Pixar Soul!

The only way I knew that trailer dropped was because someone told me!

Social media is QUIET! Absolutely quiet!

But when Artemis Fowl came out that shit was hot! Folks were talking about that shit from jump! And even when it SUCKED folks were still talking about it! I couldn’t escape the noise even if I tried!

But when it’s a Black film it’s crickets, right? (Unless Beyonce’s name is attached to it I guess. *rolls eyes*)

I’m so utterly confused right now! And so god damn mad! So again … maybe it’s just me.

Maybe I’m too small to have gotten the grand announcement! Maybe you already knew about this movie. Maybe I live under a f*cking rock! Just maybe! Maybe it’s f*cking Maybelline! I don’t f*cking know!

But I’m seriously disappointed! Because this should have been all the rage last month! Everyone on my timeline should have been talking about this. Trash or not.

Y’all talked about Tyler Perry’s trash ass Netflix movie didn’t ya? Can we put that same respect on everyone’s shit?

Damn, can you at least let us KNOW another Black movie that’s not seeped in trauma is out?! I mean it looks like there’s some DRAMA in this, but it doesn’t look like slavery or whips and chains!

Something could be said about them showing a Black man leaving his family behind to follow his dream … since I can’t recall a white movie with that narrative.

But at the end of the day, I’m not even gonna sit here and nitpick because I didn’t even KNOW this was a thing until today!

Son! There are only TWO … count them … one TWO reviews for this on Rotten Tomatoes!

Yet here I am still waiting to hear back on if I was accepted as a critic or not. Man just let me in and let me give the people a damn review since ain’t no one else checking for shit WE WATCH! Clearly y’all NEED my voice, but …

Listen! I’m done! I can’t. I just needed to scream that real quick because this really did leave a bad taste in my mouth and I have to follow my gut. This is wild!

Nah I’m NOT done! The Banker also wasn’t promoted enough this year! *ahem* I’m looking at you Apple TV Plus! TF was that about?

I know Corona swooped in right when it was supposed to drop but damn.

So now I’m wondering … what else didn’t make the “white enough to be given a marketing budget, but Black enough to appeal to non-white movie viewers” cut? *folds hands*

Okay, NOW I’m done!

Or I’ll be here ALL damn night screaming! But to ease my conscious, let me know …
