Let’s be honest … as a casual reader with a full time job, my TBR list never shrinks—if anything, it just keeps on growing baby. But that’s not going to stop me from adding more to the list! There are so many incredible books out there just waiting for me to sink my claws into them. So I’m excited to dive into these five fiction books by Black authors. I’ve been hearing about them all over social (and Goodreads) so they’re going straight to the top of my list. Here’s why I’m eager to read them!
I love a good mystery with a touch of supernatural, so The Secret World of Maggie Grey is one I can’t wait to pick up! This one was actually recommended to me by someone in my Black Harry Potter Moms Facebook group! She mentioned it gave HP vibes, so of course I added it to my list! The book promises an intriguing blend of dark secrets and hidden worlds, with a main character whose life takes an unexpected turn. I’m all about immersive stories that keep me on the edge of my seat, so hopefully this one fits the bill.
Why I’m Excited: I’ve been craving a supernatural mystery that isn’t too predictable, and from the reviews I’ve seen, this one delivers just that.
I love contemporary reads with a mix of humor, drama, and relatability, and Everyone’s Thinking It seems like it’s going to give me all of that and then some. This novel follows the lives of young adults navigating friendships, relationships, and everything in between. It’s said to be the perfect blend of humor and heartfelt moments.
Why I’m Excited: Someone described this as “Mean Girls meets Dear White People” so I’m intrigued!
This book has been on my radar for months, and I’m finally ready to dive into the world of Legendborn!
It’s been described as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina meets The Black Dagger Brotherhood, which sounds like the perfect combination of fantasy and urban legend. The protagonist, Bree, uncovers secrets about her family’s magical past while dealing with grief and identity.
Why I’m Excited: I’m always down for a fantasy with deep world-building, strong characters, and lots of twists!
I read Kamilah Cole’s So Let Them Burn a few months ago, so I’m excited to read this sequel. The story follows a character who’s trying to reclaim her life and place in a world that’s not as simple as it seems. I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about this one, and I’m excited to experience it firsthand.
Why I’m Excited: I loved So Let Them Burn so it’s only right I read the sequel!
A psychological thriller with a twist? Yes, please! The Blonde Dies First promises to deliver a wild ride filled with suspense, mystery, and shocking revelations. I’m already hooked by the title alone, and I can’t wait to see what kind of rollercoaster ride this book will take me on.
Why I’m Excited: I read Their Vicious Games a few months ago, and I’m dying to read another book by Joelle.
I’m always adding new books to my list, so what’s on yours? Let me know in the comments or tag me on Instagram (@readingwithtequila) to share your thoughts!
