Disney Plus finally released the trailer for their new original series, Diary of a Future President, today and I’m super excited! Probably even more excited than I was for High School Musical: The Musical: The series! Not even gonna lie!
My daughter and I were also invited to attend a press event on Friday where we’ll get to screen the first two episodes of the show, and have lunch with two of the cast members! So I can’t wait and I’m sharing ALL the deets below!
Diary Of A Future President Trailer Review: A Game Changer For Our Girls
I’m super excited for Diary of a Future President and what it’ll teach our girls.
From the moment I heard about Disney Plus’s new original series, Diary of a Future President, last year when they announced everything that would be coming to Disney Plus I was ecstatic!
At the time, I ONLY had the name of the series and I believe a snippet of what it would be about. But that was enough to pull my interest and start the excitement rolling for this show! And then I just watched the Diary of a Future President trailer and now I’m over the moon!
I’m excited because not only do I LOVE Disney and pretty much everything they do, especially Disney Plus and the Disney Channel. I’m also a single mother of color, of a 7 (soon to be 8) year old girl, and a former Assistant Director for a Middle School After School Program!
So this show resonates with me on many different levels! However, I’m really excited for what it’ll teach our girls. Like … “middle school is hard, but you’ll survive” or “you can be anything you wanna be, yes even a President, so dream big”.
I think working with my Middle School kids a few years ago will always be the highlight of my “working with youth” career. I loved it! But even though for me it was fun, I won’t discredit how hard it was, and how hard middle school is for kids.
I remember how bad it was for me, not having friends, and having to choose between sitting with people I honestly despised or sitting completely alone and choosing wrong everyday, then hating myself for it.
I saw my Middle Schoolers struggle with a lot as well, so hopefully this show will remind them that EVERYONE has these issues, BUT you can totally survive it and work hard and make something of yourself!
Also, some of my fave Latina’s are in this.
Not only is Gina Rodriguez executive producing Diary of a Future President (which I think is AMAZING) plus acting in this.
One of my faves from Netflix’s On My Block, Jessica Marie Garcia (who played Jasmin on OMB) is also in here, I believe as Elena’s teacher. So I can’t wait to see how she plays her role!
Of course, Selenis Leyva (from Orange Is the New Black) who we’ll get to meet on Friday, stars as Gabi, Elena’s mom.
Single moms will probably also love watching Diary of a Future President.
Listen, the President in this show (Gina Rodriguez) grew up in a single mom household and she became President! Do I need to repeat that? Sometimes single moms are bashed because there’s no father in the household, and OMG a woman could NEVER raise a human being all on her own, right? *rolls eyes*
But it’ll be nice for us to see our “fruit of labor” on a “big screen”. I get compliments daily about how well folks think I’m raising my daughter, but sometimes, when things go wrong, I still wonder if I’m doing this parenting thing right! Despite all the compliments. Cause honestly, sometimes it just doesn’t feel like it.
We also get a sneak peek of what it’s like dating as a single mom in Diary of a Future President, and how our kids can sometimes react to us dating, so I can’t wait. Cause this single mom dating life SUCKS! Can I just be married with a house already? Lol
Disney+ Upcoming Press Screening & Lunch Details
Like I mentioned above, my daughter and I were invited to attend a press event this Friday to screen Diary of a Future President, as well as have lunch with two of the cast members. Tess Romero, who plays Elena, the middle schooler destined to be a President and Selenis Leyva who plays her mom.
I’m super excited, and yes I’m taking my daughter with me, despite it being a school day! Cause I mean, why not? What are they learning in school that’s SO important she can’t miss a day to go have lunch with celebs and work?! Lol
Don’t get it twisted though, she’s doing GREAT in school, and she never got to attend the Frozen 2 red carpet premiere with me in November, so I still feel a tad bit sorry for her. Lol
Anywho, make sure you’re following me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, so you can get live updates on Friday! I’ll be using the hashtags #PATDisneyPlus and #PATDoaFP on all accounts so you can easily find my content.
I’ll also come back and do a recap of the entire event so that should be up by Sunday (since we have another event on Saturday *cough* an advanced movie screening for Dolittle *cough* which I can’t wait to see as well).
And listen, if you’re like me and you’re gonna forget to check back on Sunday for the blog posts, just subscribe to my email list! I send out weekly newsletters every Monday at lunch time so you can see all the content you’ve missed.

All About Disney Plus’s Diary Of A Future President
In the new Disney+ series “Diary of a Future President,” we see the origin story of a future leader. Told using the narration of 12-year-old Cuban American girl Elena’s diary, this new family comedy follows her journey through the ups and downs of middle school, which set her on the path to becoming the president of the USA.
“Diary of a Future President” was inspired by creator Ilana Peña’s (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) childhood and is produced by Gina Rodriguez’s (Jane the Virgin) I Can and I Will Productions.
Rodriguez directed the first episode and guest stars as grown-up Elena.
“Diary of a Future President” features up and coming actor Tess Romero (“Blind Spot,” “Alternatino”) as young Elena, an unabashed, ultra-observant 12-year-old with a strong point of view, who walks through the world with purpose and confidence. Charlie Bushnell, who makes his acting debut in the series, plays Bobby, Elena’s sweet and mischievous older brother.
Selenis Leyva (“Orange Is the New Black,” “Murphy Brown,” “Maniac”) stars as Gabi, Elena and Bobby’s sharp and loving mom. Michael Weaver (“Here and Now,” “The Real O’Neals,” “Notes from the Underbelly”) plays Sam, a lawyer at Gabi’s firm who is in the beginnings of a relationship with her.
Executive producers are Gina Rodriguez, showrunner Robin Shorr (“The Carmichael Show”), Emily Gipson (“Someone Great”), and series creator Ilana Peña.
Here’s everything else coming to Disney Plus in January and everything coming to Disney Plus in 2020.
