DC’s New “Blue Beetle” Movie Trailer Is Here And Yes, You Should Be Very, Very Excited

I just watched DC’s new “Blue Beetle” movie trailer, and I have to be completely honest here, I haven’t been this excited for a DC project, since “The Suicide Squad“.

And no, it’s not because I’m a Marvel nerd. There’s just absolutely nothing exciting about the Shazam franchise. Nothing at all. But “Blue Beetle”, aka DC’s first feature film featuring the superhero on the big screen? Now — that’s what I call a Summer blockbuster!

So hopefully DC doesn’t disappoint!

Although, after watching the trailer, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about. I mean, the film is already in good hands, considering it’s directed by Angel Manuel Soto, who also directed “Charm City Kings“. If you haven’t seen that yet — now would be a great time to check out Soto’s work firsthand. It’s a great film!

Initially developed as an HBO Max exclusive, “Blue Beetle” also stars Xolo Maridueña, our fave “Cobra Kai” member from the Netflix series inspired by the “Karate Kid”, in the title role as Jaime Reyes — a Mexican-American teenager who gains super powers when a mysterious scarab binds to his spine and provides him with a powerful suit of blue alien armour.

If that’s not exciting enough, Belissa Escobedo, who plays Izzy in “Hocus Pocus 2”, stars as Jaime’s sister, Milagro; and George Lopez as Jaime’s Uncle Rudy. And with a star studded Latino led cast, DC’s latest superhero film is already off to a great start.

All they have to do now, is keep the humor from the trailer (below) flowing through the entire movie, and sprinkle in just enough action and suspense to suck us in.

We already know Maridueña can fight his ass out of just about any crazy situation, thanks to “Cobra Kai” … so seriously DC, just give us what we want. A bad ass Latino teen superhero film we can talk about for the rest of the year. Simple!

Either way — I’m excited to see how “Blue Beetle” turns out, and I can’t wait to see it in IMAX.

Check out the official movie trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ action adventure film “Blue Beetle” below.

“Blue Beetle” will soar into theaters on August 18, 2023.
