While watching Netflix’s All Day and a Night movie, written and directed by Black Panther’s co-writer Joe Robert Cole, I couldn’t help but notice these quotes during the movie. Every one of these quotes made me stop and think, and I can relate to each of them in some way or form.
They’re definitely also a true representation of the emotions you’ll go through as you watch the movie. So I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

How many times have we heard about, or seen someone get in trouble, who oozed this exact attitude from their very existence?
This quote made me super sad because I know out there in the world, there are tons of people who feel this way.
“Slavery taught black people how to survive but not how to live and that’s what we passed on to each other.”
I definitely agree with this one! Generational curses are so hard to break because sometimes you don’t know any better. So the same bs you grew up dealing with, you end up passing on. It’s sad, but it’s true. Although this doesn’t apply to everyone!
“It’s crazy to have nothing to give when you wanna give everything.”
This quote definitely made me wanna cry. Lol And I know men deal with this one a lot harder than women sometimes because men are expected to provide.
This was Jah’s dad’s issue too. He wanted to give Jah the world and soon learned that he didn’t have much to give.
“Loyalty is currency. It’s your name. Your credit line at the liquor store. Your hard pass when you outta pocket.”
That last part about loyalty being your “hard pass when you’re outta pocket”! THAT was everything! And so damn true. Sometimes we forgive those we trust so much easier than the ones we don’t. Loyalty is everything!
Anywho, I just wanted to share these quotes from the All Day and a Night movie, which is currently now playing on Netflix, because I loved these quotes!

I had to play back the slavery line when I was watching. Then paused the movie to let it sink in. It had me reflecting in my life growing up in Jamaica, and what my parents passed on. Now here in Brooklyn, sometimes I find it hard to forget my life doesn’t revolve around work and bills.
Yes! This! My parents are Caribbean too and that’s ALL they know. Work. Sometimes I think they resent me when I laugh too much. The way they respond it’s like I’m not supposed to enjoy anything just work and get to where you need to be. But if we don’t enjoy life what’s the point? I often try to take my dad out to do stuff he likes, like bowling, but he never wants too because he’s been conditioned to think it’s a waste of money. Now I let my daughter do things that make her happy, sing in the shower, watch her favorite shows, color with music on, etc. We need to learn that life is more than bills and work.
