Yassssss you pulled the plug and you’re FINALLY going to Walt Disney World baby! Congrats! I’m so happy for you! Can you take me with you? Okay, but seriously though, you’re gonna have SO much fun! But guess what? Booking the trip, buying the tickets, or even just finally deciding that this trip is for you … that’s only the first step!

You know what’s next? The hard part! Figuring out where to stay, what to eat, and more importantly, what to do! But lucky for you, that’s what I’m here for.

No literally, that’s what I do now! I’m a Travel Agent baby! Surprise! I’ve been working on this for the last few months, and now it’s official! But I’m also still a blogger? So hang on to your seats, because I’m going to give you ALL the deets you need.

If this is your first time visiting Magic Kingdom, you’ll want to maximize your fun and there’s no better way to do that than by getting Genie Plus! So here’s how to use Genie Plus to skip the stand-by entrance (and flex on yo haters). But I know, I know, I’m getting ahead of myself!

Before we start talking about how to maximize your day, let’s actually talk about YOUR DAY! And what you NEED to do, eat, and where you should stay in Magic Kingdom, baby.

I’m not a big Magic Kingdom girlie, because let’s face it … Animal Kingdom is MY FAVE! But I know tons of folks who LOVE Magic Kingdom, and MK is definitely the park you’ll wanna take your kids to so they can “feel the magic”. If you’re going to the parks without the kiddos, but you’ve never visited Magic Kingdom, then yes, you should also visit MK. Even though it’s not my absolute FAVE, I totally recommend everyone visiting at least once.

So without further ado, here’s what you should do, eat, and where you can stay if you’re visiting Magic Kingdom. (Especially if you’re visiting for the first time ever!)

Don’t worry, the ghosts are friendly—mostly!

These are rides my daughter and I have both been on, so they’re great for the entire family. Keep in mind, that my daughter hates thrill rides, so these are slower, with no big drops.

And since Walt Disney World is always updating its rides, and we’re always visiting the parks, I’ll continue to update this list, as we try different rides.

Here’s what you should ride first at Magic Kingdom

This isn’t something I’ve had the pleasure of riding myself, but EVERY time I go to Magic Kingdom, there’s an extremely long line for “Peter Pan’s Flight”.

So if the Peter Pan ride is on your list of things to do baby, please … jump on this line first! Get it out of the way nice and early, and possibly early in your day, when the lines are a bit shorter.

What to do at Magic Kingdom besides rides

One of the things my daughter and I LOVE about the Disney Parks is that there’s always something to do! And those some things aren’t always thrill rides.

Which is perfect for us scaredy cats.

But even now that I’m getting better at trying different rides (TRON Lightcycle and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure I’m coming for you baby) I still love fitting in something “extra” during my trip.

Disney has all kinds of magical thingamabobs … including things to do, like …

  • parades
  • character meets
  • fireworks
  • musical shows
  • theater performances
  • and of course lots of cute snacks to try (which we’ll talk about later)

But here are some of my favorite things to do at Magic Kingdom besides going on rides …

Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade

Don’t miss the Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade, a lively mini-parade featuring some of your favorite Disney characters! As they travel down the parade route, you’ll see beloved characters like Mickey Mouse, Moana, Miguel from Coco, and many more.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to wave and snap photos of these iconic figures in a vibrant, energetic setting. Perfect for kids and families, this cavalcade brings the magic of Disney characters up close and personal.

Happily Ever After Fireworks

Cap off your magical day at Magic Kingdom with the breathtaking Happily Ever After Fireworks. This spectacular nighttime show lights up the sky with dazzling fireworks, captivating music, and stunning projections on Cinderella’s Castle.

The show celebrates the power of dreams and love, featuring beloved Disney characters and stories. It’s a must-see event that leaves guests of all ages spellbound and inspired, making it the perfect finale to your park visit.

Fireworks Dessert Parties

Elevate your nighttime experience at Magic Kingdom with a Fireworks Dessert Party. These special events offer reserved viewing areas for the spectacular Happily Ever After fireworks show, along with a delectable array of desserts and beverages.

Enjoy a variety of sweet treats, such as cupcakes, tarts, and chocolate-dipped strawberries, along with sparkling beverages and coffee. With options for pre-show, post-show, or seated viewing at Tomorrowland Terrace, these parties provide a relaxing and indulgent way to enjoy the fireworks without the crowds. It’s the perfect way to end your magical day on a sweet note, combining breathtaking views with delightful treats.

Character Meets

Experience the joy of meeting your favorite Disney characters face-to-face with Character Meets. Whether it’s a hug from Mickey Mouse, a high-five from Buzz Lightyear, or a chat with a Disney Princess, these encounters create unforgettable memories.

Perfect for photo opportunities and autographs, Character Meets bring the magic of Disney to life, offering a personal touch that delights both young and old.

Capture the quintessential Magic Kingdom moment by taking a photo in front of Cinderella’s Castle. This iconic landmark serves as the heart of the park and a symbol of Disney magic. Whether it’s a family portrait, a selfie, or a candid shot, the castle provides a stunning backdrop that commemorates your visit.

It’s a must-do for every guest, creating a keepsake of your magical adventure.

Ride the Walt Disney World Railroad

All aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad for a scenic and relaxing tour around Magic Kingdom! This historic steam-powered train takes you on a grand circle tour of the park, with stops in Main Street, U.S.A., Frontierland, and Fantasyland.

It’s a delightful way to take in the sights, rest your feet, and enjoy the nostalgic charm of a classic Disney experience. Great for all ages, this ride offers a unique perspective on the park’s magic.

Ride a Ferryboart or Water Taxi just for fun

Enjoy a leisurely ride on a Ferryboat or Water Taxi, offering scenic views and a relaxing break from the park’s hustle and bustle. Whether you’re crossing the Seven Seas Lagoon or traveling to different resort areas, these boat rides provide a tranquil escape and unique vantage points of Magic Kingdom and its surroundings.

It’s a peaceful and fun way to experience the park’s natural beauty and take a breather in between your adventures.

Grab a 1st Visit Pin

Make your first visit to Magic Kingdom even more special by grabbing a 1st Visit pin. Available for free at Guest Relations or various shops around the park, this pin is a wonderful keepsake to commemorate your inaugural Disney adventure.

Wear it proudly, and you’ll often receive warm congratulations and special attention from Cast Members and even some Disney characters. It’s a fun and memorable way to celebrate this magical milestone and let everyone know it’s your first time experiencing the magic of Disney!

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

Transform into your favorite Disney character at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, a magical salon where young guests can experience enchanting makeovers. Located inside Cinderella’s Castle, this unique experience offers a variety of packages that include hairstyling, makeup, nail polish, and even costumes.

First-Time Magic Kingdom Tips

And of course, this article wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t drop a few tips to help you plan the best first trip to Magic Kingdom! So here are a few things to keep in mind …

  1. A few days before your trip, download the app (you can use it to plan your day, order food, use the map, etc)
  2. If you’re short on time or hate standing in the sun, purchase Genie Plus
  3. Got a full schedule of things to do at Magic Kingdom? Get to the parks EARLY and “rope drop”
  4. Bring an autograph book if you’re planning on meeting the characters
  5. Tryna save a few bucks? Bring a refillable water bottle along (there’s a ton of places to get water for free)
  6. Need to cool down? Step into a shop for a moment to browse for souvenirs while enjoying the cool air
  7. If you’re using Genie+ and the app to navigate the parks, bring a portable charger to keep your phone juiced
  8. Beat the heat by planning your trip between October and March if possible
  9. Have at least one sit-down meal to enjoy your food, and rest your legs
  10. Bringing kids? Let them lead the way, it’ll be easier if you give them a say in what to do next
  11. Do what makes you happy, even if that means riding the same ride over and over again
  12. Choose comfort over cute, especially for your shoes, you’ll be walking all day long, your body will thank you
  13. You can buy magic bands, and Disney ears early, but save the rest of your shopping for the end of your day

And please don’t forget …

There is a LOT to do at Magic Kingdom and a lot to see, especially if this is your first time visiting. And if you’re only visiting the park for one day, you won’t have enough time to do everything! Even with Genie+ baby! It’s just not possible.

So be sure to create a Magic Kingdom bucket list, using the app, of all the things YOU want to do, eat, and see before you visit. While you may not be able to check everything off the list, having a game plan before entering the parks, will help you feel less overwhelmed.

You’ll be able to check the app for ride times and plan where to go next after a ride. Plus, you’ll know what to keep your eye out for as you walk around.

And if that STILL feels like too much for you (because let’s face it, it’s A LOT) … feel free to just message me on Facebook or Instagram, and let me know how I can help. If you prefer email, email me at shaye@momentsofmagictravel.com, and I’ll take care of the planning for you! Free of charge.
