Plus Size Baddies: I Was Wrong, Orlando Isn’t A Great City For A Girls’ Trip When It’s Hot Out

I’ve always wanted to do a girls’ trip! Partially because of the 2017 movie, and partly because — the more I traveled alone, and saw other friend groups laughing and enjoying each others’ company everywhere — the more I wanted that for myself! Traveling solo can be anxiety-inducing, empowering, and lonely AF, all at the same time! So when my friend randomly said one day “I wanna go to Universal Orlando” and another friend said “Sure, let’s go”, I was overjoyed! So damn ecstatic, about my first girls’ trip — during my birthday weekend, nonetheless, I instantly forgot that Orlando isn’t the perfect city for a girls’ trip when you’re plus-size, even if you’re a geek!

Yes, the Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando parks are right at your fingertips in Orlando! And that’s a dream come true when you’re a geek, Disney fan, or plain ol’ movie lover — which I happen to be all three.

So of course, for that reason alone I thought Orlando would be the perfect city for a girls’ trip!

But when you’re excited about spending time in what should be your favorite city (next to LA of course), you tend to forget, that not all things are as great as they seem! And, the one thing I seemed to overlook was that even though my birthday is in September and my favorite season is Autumn — the seasons don’t automatically switch just because it’s my birthday! September 9th is still, in fact, Summer! No matter how much my little brain forgets or tries to wish it weren’t so. And Orlando Summers’ are not for the weak! (And definitely not for plus-size travelers!)

So, Is Orlando A Good City For A Girls’ Trip? Full Plus Size Review

Nope! Being hot — angers me! It changes my entire mood! The moment I’m sweaty and sticky, I instantly catch an attitude. And that has nothing to do with being plus-size. I’ve been like this every size and every weight! I just hate being hot!

However — when you’re walking all day long in said heat and humidity, AND plus-size, that’s a whole different kind of attitude. When you’re hot and tired, and your feet are hurting, everything feels incredibly annoying.

Do I look happy? No, damn it! Just glistening in the sweaty hot a** sun, melting away!

On the first day of our trip, my makeup literally melted off my face at Epcot, and my hair was frizzed out before we even left our hotel room! A room that had ample AC, which I used to make our room cold on purpose. It was downhill from there! All I could do was grin and bear it. But if I’m being honest, the heat and humidity of Orlando really dampened my mood and spirit. I could feel my energy draining daily. And even when I found a seat in the parks, sitting out in the extremely hot sun didn’t help.

I’ve been warned about the Orlando heat and humidity before — in our Black Disney Moms Facebook group. But for some reason, in all my excitement, I forgot those warnings! I wanted to hope for the best! I wanted the universe to be on my side for once! Alas, it twas not, and I’ll never make this mistake again! My daughter has a dance competition coming up in Orlando next year, and I offered to take her to Disney and Universal afterward. But it’s looking like we’ll have to plan a trip in December instead. I refuse to ever be this hot ever again if I can control it!

P.S. – I’ll be posting a ton of content over the next few days from our girls’ trip in Orlando, so stay tuned! Even though I was hot as hell, my friends made sure I still had a lot of fun! So I’ll be posting reviews of everything we ate, drank, and all the rides we got on shortly!
