OMG! OMG! I just finished reading Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, and let me tell y’all—this book is totally worth the hype baby! I’m so f*cking happy I already have Iron Flame waiting for me at home because THAT ENDING is insane!! But since this is a spoiler-free review, that’s all I’ll say on that. But let’s dive in to this review.

Is Fourth Wing Worth the Hype? My Honest Review

Initial Thoughts: Fourth Wing Had Me Hooked From the First Page

I’ll admit, I was skeptical about this one at first.

When a book is the talk of the town, I tend to side-eye everyone screaming its praises because I usually don’t like what the “mainstream audience” likes. And I’m cool with that. I’m used to it. But from the very first page—after reading the line “I’m so f*cked”—I was all in. Yarros’ writing is gripping, hilarious, and downright addicting.

The Plot: Twists, Turns, and Dragons

Let’s be honest … this story had me at Dragons. But then it threw in a school specifically for dragon riders, a cutthroat environment, and a heroine who is anything but predictable? And baby!! By the time I hit Chapter 13, I was torn between which Dragon I would have picked for my own. As if this wasn’t a fictional story! As if that even mattered, when everyone was literally on their deathbeds. But can we talk about that plot twist towards the end?! I did NOT see that coming, and now I can’t stop thinking about it! It was THAT good!

Characters: A Dragon with Khonshu’s Voice?

And yes–while this story is totally about the Dragon Riders, and its school hellbent on raising soldiers instead of students, the big bad daddy Dragon *ahem yes I’m talking about you Tairn* completely stole the show for me. Anytime he “spoke,” I couldn’t help but hear Khonshu’s deep, dark, sarcastic voice from Moon Knight. Which made every scene with him ten times funnier. Of course, I just realized, that if Tairn wasn’t so big, and deadly, he’d basically be Mushu from Mulan! And of course Mushu is also the reason I love the animated Mulan movie!

But if we’re going to talk about my favorite character from the book, then we’ve gotta talk about the character I hate the most. Dain’s b*xch ass! He’s officially on my “characters I can’t wait to meet in person, because it’s on sight” list. And you’ll have to read book two, to understand why but whatever, I can’t forget what I’ve read, so he’s on the shit list. Along with that other boy we’re supposed to hate! What’s his name? Xaden? Yeah him.

Anywho …

What Makes “Fourth Wing” Worth the Hype?

  1. The Writing: It’s cinematic. I can see why they’re making this one into a movie! And I can’t wait.
  2. The Dragons: They’re not just cool—they’re hilarious, demanding, and full of personality.
  3. The World-Building: The fourth wing is so vividly described you feel like you’re there.
  4. The Emotions: One moment I was laughing at my favorite sassy little dragon’s witty comeback, and the next, I was gasping for air at the plot twist I never saw coming. It’s truly a rollercoaster of emotions!

Final Verdict

So yes, Fourth Wing is absolutely worth the hype. I borrowed my friend’s copy to read this one, in case I hated it. But it’s so good I might need my own set because I NEED the entire collection when book three drops.

If you haven’t picked this one up yet—what are you waiting for?!
