CANCEL THEM I SAY. They’re not that important. Trust me! Whatever they are, I’m gon’ need you to cancel ’em. (In my Cleo from Clifford voice – would I ever steer you wrong? Okay, when she said that she was always steering them wrong, but not me. If you’ve read my other reviews then you know.) Watching Raising Dion on Netflix is like reading a good book!
And you know how we always say the book is always better than the movie?
Well … in this case … I could see this book being just as good as this show. And I don’t think I’ve ever read a book as good as the movie! But this show is crazy!
You won’t expect the plot twist at the end either! I sure as hell didn’t!
Now I know why people kept saying “just keep watching” when I kept saying “why is this happening”. OMG! And the music is so spot on!
Every song I hear, I fall in love with, or I already know, AND LOVE! And because I’m such a music person, especially when it comes to visuals, it makes this THAT much better!
But can we talk about Dion’s cute little best friend for a second? Esperanza is the cutest, most sarcastic kid ever! And I LOVE her! Listen, me and Esperanza could be friends. When they told that little girl to GO, shawdy didn’t ask NO questions whatsoever!
She turned that wheelchair right around and WENT! Okay?!
Honestly, I love all the kids highlighted in this show. (I keep wanting to say movie for some reason, but it’s totally “just a show on Netflix“. I’d totally watch a big-budget movie for this though. Although I’m not sure how much better this could get!
The plot of this Netflix series was as realistic as it could get, too! (Without the super powers of course.) But watching a single mom struggle and giving up her life? It’s so spot on!
And watching her husband’s best friend run to her every call, was a little sad. And when I say “sad” I mean … like c’mon dude, was he REALLY your best friend if you told him NOT to marry her, and then “fell in love” with her after he died? Sigh! Nigguhs be tripping!
(I’m kidding, I’m kidding. First of all, he’s white so … nvm. Let me steer away from this conversation. Especially if you already read my “Say What You Want But I’m Not Mad At Gina Rodriguez” post.) So moving on …
Alisha Wainwright (pictured above) does a great job of portraying Dion’s mom and acting her role. I absolutely LOVE her! And I totally got “Stomp The Yard” vibes during the scene with her and Mark (played by Michael B. Jordan) in the library! It was SUPER cute.
In all … this show was produced really well and I’m sooo happy! When I first heard about a Black boy superhero series on Netflix I just KNEW it was gonna be dope. But OMG this was better than dope! I almost called outta work to finish watching it.
“Raising Dion” would honestly be the BEST show ever to binge-watch on a rainy day, so you can just curl up under your sheet and get lost in their story for a day.
But it HAS to be binged in a day, so you don’t suffer like I did.
However, if you scare easily, don’t listen to me. Don’t wait to watch this on a dark, rainy day. Cause you watching a show about a storm, while there’s a storm is bound to cause trouble.
Anywho, I can’t wait to watch this again with my daughter.
She really wants to watch it!
Which is shocking because she NEVER wants to watch anything I wanna watch. But she keeps asking me to tell her all about it on the way home from school, so one day when we’re free we’ll binge it together. (So yes, if you were wondering, “Raising Dion” is totally family-friendly!)
But OMG the ending! OMG! My heart broke!
And then BOOM … it was over and I was like WTFFF!
There definitely has to be a Season 2 because this thang was crazy and I NEED to know what happens next. Oh and I definitely wanna be on set for Season 2! Someone make that happen!
I wanna see how they get things to float and make men appear in storms and make people disappear and shit. I wanna see ALL of it!
The only problem is … I can’t look at the folks in the show the same now. Not after that climax. Not after everyone done showed their true colors. I keep seeing the GIFs online and thinking “YOU BASTARD”. Imagine seeing the actors in real life?!
With that said, “Raising Dion” is DEFINITELY something you don’t wanna miss! I’ve always loved superhero shows, especially the ones with kids in them, but this was WAY more awesome than all of the superhero shows I’ve seen so far.
Combined!
And I’ve seen pretty much all of ’em on Netflix and Hulu.
So yeah … what are you waiting for? Cancel those plans and grab some popcorn, cause you’re staying in this weekend!
Tell ’em Shaye said you gotta watch this new show on Netflix and you can’t go nowhere until you’re done. (What? You know you don’t wanna go nowhere anyway!)
