I know some of y’all are probably laughing because of this title (or nodding in solidarity because … exactly). However, I’m not laughing. Okay I am, but I’m not. Apple TV Plus announced their new movie “Swan Song” featuring Mahershala Ali awhile back and ever since then I’ve been hype!
Not only is Mr. Ali always nice to see on screen. The concept of this film (which seems to be oddly similar to a specific episode in Amazon Prime’s “Solos” series) is dope AF.
So I’m dying to see how things play out. (I may or may not be already writing the story in my head. So pray for me because I have high expectations here.)
However, when I took a closer look at the Swan Song cast I immediately rolled my eyes, sighed and prayed to the gods that Ms. Awkafina doesn’t ruin this.
Look … I get some of you like her, but just deal with the fact that I don’t.
I don’t like her screechy annoying voice and I rarely like her over the top wanna be funny so damn bad, but is not, acting! So although I commend her for playing more serious role, like in Shang Chi and now Swan Song. (Opposed to her being the most cutest, but most annoying, Dragon you’d ever did see in Raya and the Last Dragon.)
I’m still not quite convinced she won’t piss me off in this.

Set in the near future, “Swan Song” is a powerful, emotional journey (or so the folks at Apple TV Plus say) told through the eyes of Cameron (Mahershala Ali), a loving husband and father who is expecting his second child with his wife Poppy (Naomie Harris).
When Cameron is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he is presented with an alternative solution by his doctor (Glenn Close) to shield his family from grief.
As Cameron grapples with whether or not to alter his family’s fate, he learns more about life and love than he ever imagined.
Written and directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Benjamin Cleary, “Swan Song” explores how far we will go, and how much we’re willing to sacrifice, to make a happier life for the people we love.
If you’ve watched Upload on Amazon you get the concept. And since Apple TV Plus has been kicking ASS lately with their amazing series (see: Ted Lasso, Swagger, Foundation, Acapulco, etc) this film seems promising.
If only it weren’t for the annoying wanna be Blasian.
Now don’t get me wrong, I know a bunch of Asians, and they’re all cool AF!
But not only does sis voice disturb my entire soul, apparently she also FAKES her blaccent? And since the day I found out that little bit of news, I’ve hated her even MORE. (More cause … it’s not like I liked her to begin with.)
Anywho, I just needed to get that off my chest apparently.
Either way, I’m gonna watch Swan Song and I hope you do too!
Swan Song will premiere on Apple TV Plus on December 17, 2021.
